History of our camp

Among the Pines first camp was held in the summer of 2012.  Our camp met on the Girl Scout property outside of Lyons called Kiwa Korral.  We held Among the Pines on this property in 2012 and 2013.  In September 2013 our beloved Kiwa Korral was destroyed by the floods that ravaged much of northern Colorado.

Among the Pines moved to the Boulder County Fairgrounds property for the 2014 camp and have held camp there ever since.  Among the Pines (along with all other Girl Scout camps statewide) was cancelled the summer of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  But we returned for the summer of 2021 and beyond!
We added a mid-week field trip to the south trailhead of beautiful Heil Valley Ranch in 2015 and visited there through our 2019 camp.  Due to the CalWood Fire of October 2020 we were unable to hold the field trip at Heil Valley in 2021 and instead visited nearby Golden Ponds Nature Area (and were delighted with the abundant wildlife found there!).  We will continue to have this mid-week field trip be a special feature of Among the Pines.

Bluebird, the camp director, started Among the Pines in 2012 and has continued to be the director ever since, along with several loyal staffers who have been there for many years.  We welcome new staffers every year as well!
